A very successful Come and Try day

It was the Derinya Come and Try Day, open to every year level from Prep right through to Grade 6.

You could feel the excitement around the preppies and Grade 1s. There were kids everywhere… running, laughing, lining up for turns, and giving everything a go, even if they’d never picked up a basketball before.

The kids were split into groups, rotated through skills, was having a go at shooting, and the whole place just buzzed. It was a bit of organised chaos in the best possible way, whistles, bouncing balls, red faces, big smiles and it all worked because so many of the Derinya Basketball Club committee members were there, hands-on, keeping it moving and making every kid feel included.

And the best part? You could tell everyone had a great time. It was fun, it was welcoming, and it felt like one of those afternoons where you look around and think… yep. This is exactly what community sport is all about.

Thank you to our incredible volunteers and committee members for their time, energy, and support on the day. And a special thank you to all the kids who joined in, had a go, and brought the fun, you’re what it’s all about!
