About Derinya Basketball Club

Derinya Basketball Club is a volunteer-run incorporated body, which is managed by a volunteer committee. Whilst we share our name with Derinya Primary School and most players also attend the school, we are independent from the school.

All teams must have a volunteer coach and team manager.

Competition format

Derinya Basketball Club participates in the Frankston District Basketball Association (FDBA) junior domestic competition. FDBA runs two seasons per year: a Winter season, which runs during Terms 2 and 3 of a school year, and a Summer season, which runs during Term 4 and Term 1 the following year.

Teams are categorised into single gender (boys and girls) and into age groups according to player birth year. Participants cannot play in age groups lower than their birth year, however may “play up” in higher age groups.

A player must be under the age as at 31 December in the year the competition commences. For Winter 2024 and Summer 2024/25 the following birth-years apply:
U8 2017-2018
U10 2015-2016
U12 2013-2014
U14 2011-2012
